Ezra Riga is the private initiative of a small Jewish religious community in Riga. The organisation was created to pray and study the Torah, and as it developed its founders began to provide support to the elderly members of the group. The assistance programme was founded in 2006. Today, Ezra helps 70 people. Some require one-time or short-term assistance in a crisis situation, others require constant support. Members of the organisation focus on providing assistance in cases where the resources of state social assistance programmes and charitable organisations are exhausted. In addition to providing financial assistance, volunteers visit the elderly and help them with everyday domestic issues.
