Žanis Lipke – the Righteous among the Nations of Latvia. During the war, Lipke, by risking his own life and the lives of his loved ones, saved more than 50 Jews of Latvia from their death. Today, hundreds of descendants of the people owing their lives to the heroic docker from the Kipsala Island reside around the world.
During the Holocaust in Latvia, hundreds of people found strength to help Jews and hide them from certain death. The title of the Righteous Among the Nations was awarded to 138 residents of Latvia, and according to the estimate of the respected historian Marģers Vestermanis, about 460 people participated in the rescue of the Jews in Latvia.
A new project - the House of Courage - has been created for the development of the Žanis Lipke Memorial. EUR 357,000 are needed for the first stage - the purchase of land. EUR 255,000 of this amount are already available in the form of donations and guarantees.
EUR 102,000 still need to be raised.
Uniting History Foundation together with the Jewish Community of Latvia have started a donation campaign to collect the missing amount: https://tolam.jews.lv/en/projects/view/22/. Every euro donated will be doubled by the Uniting History Foundation.
Any amount of donation is of great value because it is not only the financial contribution that matters, but also your involvement in this important project.
You can make a donation by using a payment card or PayPal.
